27 Chinese steel mills shortlisted

27 Chinese steel mills shortlisted for the top 50 global steel companies in 2022

News from our newspaper (Reporter Zhu Xiaobo) On June 7, the World Steel Association (WSA) released the 2022 ranking of global steel companies.

It is reported that the ranking of global steel companies in 2022 is based on the crude steel output of global steel companies in 2021.

By comparing with the previous year’s list, it can be seen that the 2022 list has the following characteristics: First, the entry threshold is higher. In 2021, the minimum production requirement of the top 50 global steel companies is 8.18 million tons, compared with 8.01 million tons in 2020.

Second, from the perspective of changes in the ranking of domestic Chinese steel mills, after the reorganization of Anben, Ansteel Group jumped from seventh to third in the world, surpassing Hegang Group, Shagang Group, and Nippon Steel, and second only to China Baowu and Ansai LeMittal.

Third, in terms of the number of finalists, the number of Chinese steel companies shortlisted this year is 27, 2 less than in 2021, namely Jinxi Iron and Steel and Benxi Iron and Steel.

It is worth pointing out that due to the great influence of the production restriction policy of HBIS in 2021, the world ranking was surpassed by Japan Steel and Posco, dropping from third to seventh. In 2021, Benxi Iron and Steel Group has been merged into Anshan Iron and Steel Group and is not included in the list. Therefore, the only Chinese steel company that actually fell out of the top 50 is Jinxi Steel.

In addition, Cleveland-Cliffs Mining Corporation, the largest independent iron ore mining company in North America, will enter the steel industry in 2021 through the successful acquisition of AK Steel Holdings of the United States and ArcelorMittal U.S. Branch, becoming the largest flat iron ore mining company in North America. material manufacturer.

In 2021, the company’s crude steel output will reach 16.3 million tons, ranking 25th among the top 50 global steel companies 2022. The Swedish steel company’s crude steel output in 2020 is 7.54 million tons, two short of the top 50 global steel companies in 2021. In 2021, the crude steel output of Swedish Steel will reach 8.18 million tons, an increase of 640,000 tons over the same period last year, ranking 50th in the global steel company ranking in 2022.

In general, except for a few steel companies such as China Baowu, most of the shortlisted Chinese steel companies have dropped in the rankings. This is related to China’s crude steel production limit policy in 2021. According to statistics, in 2021, China’s crude steel output will be 1.033 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.0%, while global crude steel output will increase from 1.879 billion tons in 2020 to 1.951 billion tons in 2021, an increase of 72 million tons year-on-year.
