Technical Specifications

What is Incoloy 825 Alloy Steel?

Incoloy 825 is a nickel-based alloy developed to resist both oxidizing and reducing corrosion environments. Unlike conventional stainless steels, this alloy maintains its corrosion resistance even in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid mixtures, and seawater exposure.

From an engineering and procurement perspective, Incoloy 825 is widely selected when:

  • Stainless steels (304 / 316L) fail due to stress corrosion cracking

  • Higher-nickel alloys (Inconel 625, Hastelloy C276) are technically excessive or cost-inefficient

  • Long-term operational reliability is critical

This makes Incoloy Alloy 825 a cost-effective corrosion-resistant alloy for medium-to-severe service conditions.

Corrosion Resistance:

Incoloy alloy 825’s corrosion resistance is one of its greatest advantages:

✔ Resistant to strong acids such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid;

✔ Resistant to oxidizing environments (such as nitric acid and oxidizing salts);

✔ Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion;

✔ Performance in high chloride environments is far superior to most stainless steel alloys.

Fabrication & Machining:

  • Excellent welding and forming

  • Machining requires standard industrial tooling

  • Custom dimensions available

Chemical Composition of Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825)

Incoloy 825 is an alloy from the UNS N08825 series, primarily composed of high proportions of nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), molybdenum (Mo), copper (Cu), and titanium (Ti). The synergistic effect of these elements results in its extremely high corrosion resistance.

ElementTypical Range (%)
Nickel (Ni)38–46
Iron (Fe)30–35
Chromium (Cr)19.5–23.5
Molybdenum (Mo)2.5–3.5
Copper (Cu)1.5–3.0
Titanium (Ti)0.6 max
Carbon (C)0.05 max
  • ✔ Nickel improves resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking;
  • ✔ Chromium provides oxidation resistance;
  • ✔ Molybdenum and copper enhance corrosion resistance in reducing acid environments.

Mechanical Properties:

Incoloy Alloy 825 maintains excellent strength and ductility in the range of room temperature to medium and high temperature, and retains good tensile strength and impact resistance even at temperatures up to around 500°C.

PropertyValue
Tensile Strength485–690 MPa
Yield Strength170–310 MPa
Elongation30–40%
Hardness150–190 HB
Max Service Temperature980°C
