According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS) on Wednesday, the global primary aluminum supply is in short supply by 1.477 million tons from January to November 2021, and the oversupply in 2020 will be 1.272 million tons.

From January to November 2021, the demand for primary aluminum was 63.25 million tons, an increase of 4.648 million tons compared with the same period in 2020. Demand is measured in apparent numbers, and nationwide lockdown measures could affect trade statistics.

Production increased by 3.7% in January-November 2021. Reported stocks at the end of November were 1.483 million tonnes below their end-2020 levels.

From January to November 2021, global primary aluminum production increased by 3.7% compared with the first 11 months of 2020.

China’s output is expected to be 35.4466 million tons, accounting for about 57% of the global total.

Apparent demand in China was 5.9% higher than the same period in 2020. China will become a net exporter of unwrought aluminum in 2020.

From January to November 2021, China’s net export volume of semi-finished aluminum products was 4.415 million tons, compared with 3.876 million tons in the same period last year.

Demand in Japan increased by 303,000 tons, and demand in the United States increased by 181,000 tons. Global primary aluminum demand in January-November 2021 increased by 7.9% from the previous year.

In November, the global primary aluminum production was 5.4996 million tons, and the demand was 5.6985 million tons.
